Take me to....
The capital city with its unique beehive shaped parliament has plenty to keep you interested.
Known as the cultural capital, the city abounds with theatres, museums and galleries. Don’t miss the National Museum, Te Papa. Ride the quaint cable car for a view of the city or take an excursion up Mt. Victoria to experience the bracing Wellington “breeze” straight from the Antarctic! And the views. Try not to miss the incredible vista from the top of Wright’s Hill either.
Wellington is home to the world renowned Weta Worksop, involved in the production and special effects for many blockbuster movies. Be sure to visit the Weta Cave and take in their theatre too where you can see what goes on!
The Zealandia Wildlife Sanctuary is an amazing illustration of how the native flora and fauna can be restored to, and thrive in, an almost urban setting.
In the north of the region lies the coastal Queen Elizabeth Park with its tramway museum and the golden beaches of the Kapiti Coast. Excursions are available to Kapiti Island too.
