Backcountry Saddle Expeditions Ltd has been operating in the historic Cardrona Valley, under the guidance of Debs Thompson, for the last 23 years.
Debs prefers the Appaloosa horse breed which have proven to be a sensible, well mannered horse that does particularly well in the often harsh terrain and climate of the Cardrona Valley. The horses are outfitted in Western saddles which offer both comfort and added security to all the riders.
Debs has been developing, learning and changing throughout her time at the stables . Equine accupressure, barefoot trimming, natural horsemanship, equine feed requirements and general equine husbandry all with the goal of working towards a more natural horse and essentially a happier, safer horse for her trekkers.
Safety is paramount at Backcountry Saddle Expeditions with all the guides holding a current first aid certificate and safety helmets are provided.
At Backcountry Saddle Expeditions you will not only learn alot about the horses and riding, you will also learn about the local area's goldmining history and be well informed about the local flora and fauna.
