Built in 1878 Beaufort House a 2 storey homestead originally a property of 5 acres, was converted to a guest house in 1903, a theme that continues today.
The original servants quarters are located high in the native area, leading by a foot bridge to the boutique vineyard. Beaufort House has terraced gardens with areas of the 1880's garden remaining, an imposing 1860 Pohutukawa tree and 1878 landmark Bunyah Tree of some 25metres in height.
Sharon and Noel purchased the property in 2012 after the Christchurch earthquakes, they have a background in hospitality previously owning a fine dining Restaurant in the city for 9 yrs.
Both have interesting hobbies and interests, Sharon an antique collector of 40 years and Noel a sailor compassing the globe, his yacht Roaring Meg safely moored in the Akaroa harbour.
Beaufort House extends 5 bedrooms as accommodation, a guest sitting room and formal dining area. The house is furnished in a English/French style ... everything has a purpose and is enjoyed, down to the strains of music from the wind up gramophone. Hosted evening wine and canapes are served each evening, with a full breakfast option at breakfast. Sharon sets the table with her love of vintage china silver and white linen.
Guests are welcome to meander the grounds, with many areas to relax be on the wide sunny verandahs or a visit beyond. Sharon and Noel enjoy the company of their guests, are well travelled themselves and always have a story or two to share.
