Marlborough, New Zealand

sample

Marlborough is the top eastern corner of the South Island of New Zealand.

Marlboroughs Outdoor Activities

You will have seen brochures claiming that New Zealand arguably has the best scenery in the world. That is for you to decide - we may be a little biased. But Marlborough, Picton, and the Sounds are in the centre of it all, and the following will give some ideas on the activities that are available locally.

Swimming

The complex immediately next door has a truly superb all-weather swimming pool. We can arrange for you to use it for a small charge.

Tennis

Likewise by arrangement, you can use the all-weather tennis court - with flood-lighting for evening play.

Water Sports

For water activities both above and below the surface, the Marlborough Sounds has it all - superb boating and sailing, water skiing, kayaking, fishing, scuba diving (including the wreck of the Russian Cruise-liner, the Mikhail Lermentov), snorkelling - and while out on the water you will have an excellent chance of seeing seals and dolphins. And you could be lucky enough to spot the odd Orca or two!

Walking and Jogging

Picton with the surrounding hills and superb views of the Sounds is made for the outdoors. Overnight walks or tramps include the Captain Cook Trail, the Queen Charlotte Walkway, and the Richmond Ranges, and more local walks such and the Snout Walkway are very popular also.

Cycling

The area is ideal for road and mountain bike use. Ask us about using your 4WD also.

Hunting Tramping & Fishing

It's simply the best! We can put you in touch with the people who know the best places to go. Our area also has excellent fresh water (trout) fishing.

Wine Tasting

Marlborough is the center of New Zealands "new world" wine producing areas. Take a coach or hire a bicycle and do a wine-tasting tour. The nearest winery to Picton is the Johanneshof Cellars, eight minutes drive from Picton and the winery and their white wines are superb.

Golf

The Koromiko 9-hole course is seven minutes drive from Picton and is a lovely and challenging course with reasonable course fees.

And locally we have excellent shopping and restaurants, and places to visit such as the 'Edwin Fox' and the Picton Museum, with its many exhibits from the whaling era.

We will be pleased to advise you or provide an expert contact for any ot the above activities...
