Central North Island horse treks

Experience the magnificent working farm while horse trekking over the rolling open spaces and through beautiful native forest. The panoramic views of Lake Rotorua and Mount Ngongataha are spectacular.

With a stable of over 80 horses, all ages and abilities are catered for. We give helpful instructions for the less experienced rider and helmets, boots and wet weather gear (if necessary) are provided.
Our rides range from 30 minutes to two hours plus for the more experienced riders. We offer excellent facilities for groups of all sizes. Our staff are very friendly and have lots of experience with horses. Our horses are very well looked after and live a happy, healthy life here with us.

We also offer excellent accommodation for singles families or groups. There will be camps held during the school holidays for children aged between 8 – 16 years old. Bring you child/children to come have some fun at the Farmhouse ranch. There will be many fun filled activities to enjoy including lots of horse riding, horse lessons, games, activities and much more.

Horse Trekking Lake Okareka enables you to explore 1500 acres of rolling sheep and cattle producing farmland and 500 acres of bush on horse back. This is a horse riders paradise with stunning panoramic views.

You will trek through native bush between the volcanic Lake Okareka, Lake Tarawera and the famous Blue and Green Lakes. We have horses to suit all abilities, with guided treks from half an hour to 3 hours if required. This is a family farm and Lucy Playne one of the owners with the help of staff guides the treks.
