Mountain Valley Adventure Lodge

Novice treks through the farm and pine forestDescription: Mountain Valley is a hidden gateway to the landscapes and legends of the Mohaka Valley; a magical rural retreat set on the banks of the Mohaka river, overlooked by the legendary Te Waka peak. Just 5 mins off SH5, within easy reach of Taupo and Napier, Mountain Valley is an accessible and secluded piece of wilderness New Zealand in which to relax, refresh and recharge.

We pride ourselves in offering some of the finest wilderness horse treks in the country. Ranging from novice treks through the farm and pine forest, through to an all day wilderness mountain treks into the bush, we cater for all ages and levels of experience. We currently operate a herd of 20 horses, and can cater for couples, families and groups with ease.

As a rural retreat, Mountain Valley offers a real opportunity to reconnect with the natural world. We are surrounded by the legendary mountains of the Kawekas. The river is classified as one of only two remaining ‘wild and scenic’ watercourses on the north island, and is a mecca for our river pursuits, including heritage and white water rafting, wilderness kayak adventures, and some of the best trout fishing in the world.

All of our guides are experienced and knowledgeable people who like nothing more than to involve you fully in all of our activites, whilst relating stories of the history and legends of this remarkable region, and introducing you to its flora and fauna.

For those for whom our adventurous pursuits do not appeal, there is of course plenty of space to walk or enjoy a dip in the river.
