The delightfully picturesque hills and valleys of Rangihau Ranch hide a colourful pioneering history. Giant Kauri once covered the hills and gold miners and gum-diggers prospered amidst this native splendour. Today you can ride through this historic landscape from Rangihau Ranch. The property is now a working sheep and beef farm with a kiwi-fruit orchard and a self-catering farm-stay cottage. The cottage is in a private garden setting and sleeps a maximum of 4 people.
A team of trek horses are used for the guided rides which follow some of the original packhorse trails of the 1800's into the spectacular panorama of the Coromandel Ranges. Rugged hills, native bush and rolling farmland unfold before you while Mercury Bay harbour sparkles in the distance. Your rides can last 1, 1 1/2 or 2 hours. There are horses to suit all ages and abilities and for pre-schoolers there's a pony trail to take where they can be taken on a lead-rein on a quiet pony over the river flats to the Waiwawa river and return with a duration of 1/2 hour.
Over the summer holidays we run a Day Camp for children aged from 7yrs to approximately 15yrs where they come and spend the day on the farm. Activities include farm and bush riding, pony care, tuition, picnic, swimming, mounted games etc
Booking are essential and rides are weather dependent.... so saddle up and ride through this beautiful and historic heartland at Rangihau Ranch, home of the 'Real New Zealand Ride'.
