The lodge is only a 12 minute drive from Thames along the famous "Pohutukawa Coast" to the small village of Te Puru. Whilst travelling to La Casa you will enjoy looking at the bird life resting on shorelines and rocks or diving into the sea.
On a bright sunny day the sea sparkles like diamonds and as you look beyond the sea to the distant shorelines of Kaiaua the hills above are different shades of green. The fertile land of Kaiaua was where our native Moari people grew their crops and would travel to and fro from Te Aputa Pa the sacred site where La Casa is situated.
From Te Puru travel north to Waiomu and enjoy the Waiomu Kauri Grove walk. A 2hr 30 min return will take you through luxuriant forest and fresh water streams to the large stand of mature kauri trees.
Follow the Coast to the 306 Road where the Rapura Water Gardens are situated and also the spectacular Square Kauri Tree. Estimated to be 1200 years old the kauri tree has an unusual square-looking bole.
Continue on the 306 Road to Coroglen and chose to drive to Hot Water Beach, Catherdral Cove or spend a day in Whitianga.
The township of Coromandel has historic buildings and also the world famous Driving Creek Railway. If you love pottery and engineering then this is for you!
For the adventurous travel north to Port Jackson situated at the tip of the Coromandel or over the ranges to the unspolit New Chums beach .
The Coromandel has excellent fishing and diving .
