Bed and Breakfast Accommodation in New Zealand

New Zealand B&B (Bed and Breakfast) Accommodation

New Zealand B&Bs

Bed & Breakfast, or B&B, is a general term for a variety of private home based visitor accommodation now widely offered in New Zealand. Sometimes the lines can be quite blurred.

The TrueNZ Bed & Breakfast Guide includes all the following:

Bed & Breakfast (B&B) Accommodation

B&B accommodation varies enormously from sumptuous, purpose built boutique "lodges" to quite modest private homes. All B&B's usually accommodate just a small number of guests.

Common to all will be separate, private accommodation usually with ensuite or private bathrooms for guests and often with a guest lounge. Some offer separate guest entrances but all will have breakfast included in the tariff.

Most offer a choice between continental or full cooked breakfasts. Some New Zealand B&B's also offer other meals by arrangement.

Homestay Accommodation

Similar in many ways to a full Bed & Breakfast, Homestay accommodation is more like going to stay with friends. You can expect a bedroom, often with private bathroom facilities, in your host’s home.

Generally you will share the main living areas of the home with your hosts and breakfast is usually included, although may be "cook your own" in the main kitchen, to which you would usually (but not necessarily) have access to prepare your evening meal.

A great way to get to know your hosts!

Farmstay Accommodation

Farmstay accommodation is often a "Homestay" on a farm where guests also get an opportunity to see something of real farm life in New Zealand.

Many farmstays either offer an evening meal with the hosts or allow guests to use the farm kitchen to cook their own.

Another common type of Farmstay provides guest accommodation in a separate annex or cottage on the farm, usually fully self contained and often with breakfast included.

Hosted Self Catering Accommodation

Hosted self catering accommodation is perhaps best described as a "mini motel", being a fully self contained and usually self catering, annex or cottage located in the grounds of your host’s home, or at least very nearby.

It should be fully equipped with all linen etc provided for your stay. Breakfast may, or may not, be included.

Now I'd like to find a New Zealand Bed & Breakfast.... or a farmstay.... or a place with self-catering accommodation please....
